Students

Find out more about our placements

We understand the importance of ensuring future farm vets gain relevant experience through EMS, aligned with the needs of today’s dairy, beef and sheep farming systems. We value having students with us and encourage those interested in a career in farm veterinary practice to spend time seeing practice at Forge Farm Vets.

Our goal is to provide placements that give students a genuine insight into farm veterinary work while helping them develop knowledge and skills appropriate to their stage in the course. Where possible, we also offer seminars to build on the foundational knowledge acquired in vet school and apply it to real clinical cases.

To make the most of your placement, we ask that you have completed some clinical training before joining us and that you are in the final year of your veterinary studies.

Additionally, due to the nature of how we run our practice, you will need a car for your placement. To get the best experience and see the widest range of cases, you will also need to drive between calls at times.

We expect all students joining us to be well-equipped, bringing a minimum of:

  • Wellies
  • Clean waterproofs: at least two sets of waterproof over-trousers and three parlour tops
  • Stethoscope
  • Thermometer
